> ... run on a problem instead of fixing a problem ...
... he runs on a problem instead of fixing a problem. First of all, I do understand, why my opponent's message resonates with so many Americans. For years, as we have been working hard on fixing the problem of immigration, the Democratic Party shied away from simply talking how big and bad that problem was. Some of my colleagues might have come through as lacking empathy to the hard-working Americans who were justly afraid of how the illegal immigrants may impact their safety and prosperity. I am going to fix that, especially because it is a really easy fix -- all I have to do is to be more transparent. The only reason we talked less about the problem was that we were too focused on the solution while our opponents did nothing but empty talk.
Yes, the flow of honest immigrants can cover a trickle of criminals, and we should make every effort to detect and stop them. Yes, the overflow of illegal immigrants can overstrain our crumbling social infrastructure, taking resources from those Americans that need help and count on it. Yes, illegal immigration is intrinsically that -- illegal -- and as such must be stopped.
The democratic party has been doing everything we could to fight it in any way possible without disrupting essential trade and legal travel. Back since Barack Obama administration, the rate of capture and deportation of illegal immigrants has been X% higher than that of Rebublican administrations. While all Donal Trump managed to do is to lie to you about building the Mexico-payed wall or chased children away from their parents, we did A, and B, and C. As an Attorney General in CA, I personally participated in D and E. Finally, just now, working together between the presidential administration and representatives and senator from both sides of the isle we have developed and prepared the most comprehensive and the strictest immigration bill that would allow us to do even more, delivering major progress in place of incremental improvements we could do under the past imperfect laws. And what happened? Donald Trump practically forced his party to reject the bill that they themselves proposed. For a single reason -- so he could keep on scaring people with a problem that he himself was incapable of solving. (He may or may not have had an additional reason for stopping our bill -- so he could keep employing undocumented workers in his hotels and resorts and exploiting them while not paying even the minimal wage. Whether that was one of his motive is yet to be investigated.)
