I would like to address the company and the company leadership to raise the question of [companyname] severing any legal or business connection with Russia? Specifically, I am talking about shutting down its Moscow office and any other official representatives or partnerships there. Today, doing any official business with Russia means co-funding the offensive war Russia is leading against my country. A war, where the Russian side refuses to follow any international laws or moral principles. Russian troops mass-kill civilians, including children; bomb hospitals and medical vehicles; execute journalists; finally, they put Ukraine and Europe at risk of an unprecedented environmental catastrophe (by now, they set on fire a huge oil storage in Kyiv preventing any efforts to put down the fire, a gas pipeline in Kharkiv, hit a radioactive waste storage in the middle of Kyiv, captured and are holding hostage the site and staff of Chornobyl nuclear plant, etc). A letter from [our CEO] on Friday had some warm words and lots of personal sympathy to “those affected in Ukraine and Moscow”..., but even seeing these two locations placed next to each other in a sentence hurts me as terribly unfair. Yes, [companyname] staff is important. But business presence of [companyname] in Moscow means more than having workers in there who might need emotional support. Presence of [companyname] in Moscow means money our company pays to the aggressor in local business taxes and income taxes of its staff. Presence of [companyname] in Russia means reputational support of a criminal terrorist regime. I strongly believe that not shutting down all Russia-related activities immediately would demonstrate that all the periodic messages from the higher management, all those beautiful texts on human-first values, caring, inclusivity etc were just empty words and nothing else.

I believe that basic human decency should be enough to initiate complete discontinuance of all of its connections to Russia. But if morality reasons are insufficient for us, the leadership might consider the fact that Russia is being placed under severe financial and political sanctions as I am writing these lines. Severing business connections now, before [companyname] is hit by the sanctions, may actually save money to the company.

Moreover, doing the right thing before the company is forced to do it by government rules, will definitely save the company’s face.

Good point. Thanks for the idea. Sharing it on facebook or twitter or both would make more sense, I think.

Слушно. Маємо подібну проблему, не просував її бо не хтів галасу. Зараз, схоже, настав час. Спробую поширити до начальства.
